Have you ever made a New Year's resolution? Are you planning on making a New Year's resolution? With any study you go to, one of the top three most common new year’s resolutions is to get in shape/get more exercise. That is almost so common that it’s universally known that gyms get a boost in memberships in the month of January; specifically CrossFit gyms in Broken Arrow. You will hear of other like save more money or learn a new skill or buy a house. But those typically are not as popular among people as getting more exercise.
There are some interesting statistics on people who want to get more exercise as their New Year’s resolution. According to the US News 80% of people quit on their resolutions during the second week of February. It’s almost like you can’t call it a commitment at that point. It’s more of a self-sustained motivation of an idea you have to try to make yourself better. You can’t get better if you are not willing to do things even if you don’t want to. If you quit when the motivation is not there then it’s not a commitment.
So what can you do to make yourself commit to your resolution? First, you have to realize that this is a commitment and not just an idea. You have to prepare your mind that this is going to be difficult. Call it a goal. Your goal is to stick to this commitment no matter what. You will not fail. What do people do to keep goals? Get some sticky notes or a notepad at your desk and write a note to yourself. Whatever that note should read is up to you. Motivate yourself the way you like to be motivated. If you need tough love or sweet coddling, then do that.
Another thing you can do is to, in some way, punish yourself for if you slip up on your resolution. Most people like to make excuses to make themselves not feel as bad when they slip up. Truly committed resolutioners will reprimand themselves. For example if you are wanting to get more exercises and find a CrossFit gym in Broken Arrow then you need to set some parameters. Make yourself start going to the gym at least two days a week. If you don’t make it twice in a week, you should punish yourself in a way that is specific to you. Say you like to listen to Taylor Swift every day on the way to work. Now you can make yourself not listen to your favorite music because you did not attend the 2 classes per week at the CrossFit gym in Broken Arrow.
I hope these things help you get on the right track and mind set to better yourself through the next year. And if you happen to be looking for a CrossFit gym in Broken Arrow you need to come in to Prime Performance Strength & Conditioning.
